Indian films are musicals and yet, our actors are not singers. While the Salman Khans and Madhuri Dixits of Bollywood have looked super-hot lip synching to songs sung by playback singers, actors who can flex their vocal chords have been truly missed. Yes, Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and others have sung a song here and there and playback singer Sonu Nigam has tried to act but we are talking of muscians and/or singers who are also natural actors.

In the 50s and the 60s, there was Kishore Kumar, who was not only one of the best comic actors ever but was also a supremely talented music composer and playback singer. His “Ena Mina Dika“, “Haal Kaisa Hai Janaab Ka“, “Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si” and “Maana Janaab Ne Pukara Nahin” still rule the hearts of filmi music lovers.

Fifty years later, another lively young man, this time from across the border, is emerging as a true tripe threat. Not only has Ali Zafar won acclaim and hordes of fans for his acting performances in  Bollywood films Tere Bin Laden, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and the just-released London, Paris, New York (LPNY), this Pakistani pop star has proved himself to be a music composer and singer to be reckoned with with the catchy numbers he composed and sang for LPNY.

We think he has the versatality and work ethic it takes to be the next Kishore Kumar. Listen to the songs from LPNY and let us know if we have a point.

Some big news at Tweet Idol – The site has been recently sold and we’re happy to be taking over as the new owners of the site!

Life is funny sometimes, you just never know how any given day will turn out…

I was the given the opportunity to buy the site (by chance) and I fell in love with it right away.  Never in a million years had I thought about running a celebrity Twitter site.

We’ve just transferred the hosting as of last week and live celebrity updates have been turned back on.  That means celebrity tweets refreshed again every minute!

There is lots of work to be done

1 – New Facebook timeline page, should be ready in the next 72 hours

2 – New Twitter background, we’re going to get back to some solid tweeting again!

3 – Partial site re-design and exploring new functionality, this will be a continual process over the next 60 days

4 – We’ll be hiring at least one blog/content writer to showcase the latest content for you on a regular basis

Tusshar Kapoor

The name of the first ever film award ceremony entirely by the common people is “Jeeyo Bollywood Awards”. Though the award which Tusshar Kapoor has won is for his performance in Golmaal 3, yet the judges found his performance in the role of dumb character quite appreciable and laudable in all the parts of the Golmaal series.

The lucky award distributors to hand over the award to the “Lucky” of Golmaal 3 were 10 years old Pratiksha and 61 years old Dadlani. It might really be a fabulous moment for them to hand over the award to the star. Especially, Pratiksha was really excited about the event; she told the media that it took her to watch the movie ten times to decide whether Tusshar was really capable of getting the award.

Dadlani was equally happy to be a part of the event and thanked UTV Movies and PVR Cinemas for making it possible for the senior citizen to meet the actor. The 61 years old found Tusshar’s acting really hilarious and believed that he truly deserved the award.

Tusshar who hasn’t been very lucky in making a stable and successful place for himself in Bollywood otherwise, got much appreciation from his performance by playing the role of the dumb character Lucky in the Golmaal series. After his debut film, Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai in 2001, he could only give a bag full of flops; however, Golmaal series did good business and Golmaal Returns even got him a Star Screen Award for Best Comedian. And now, Golmaal 3 got him a Jeeyo Bollywood Award.

His latest movie Love U Mr. Kalakaar got release just yesterday. More popularly known as LUMK, the film has got him several congratulatory Twitter @Messages, hope the movie does well and our Lucky really gets some good luck finally!

Whether the story is true or entirely made up, Bips is badly upset with it. She finds it totally unethical and is not at all ready to take such a blow on her that blemishes her dignity. “A celeb takes beatings of all kinds but if my dignity is challenged,I am ready to take this issue up in a stronger manner!” … “There is a limit of making up stories at the cost of a celeb! Sensationalising ridiculous and untrue stories is not ethical at all!” Bips posted on her Twitter page later.

On the other hand, Amar Singh played his own political game out of the entire episode. He did agree that the voice was his as he said in a press conference that the voice in the CD was genuine but at the same time he claimed, “…the CDs of my phone conversations are spliced, cut and paste job.” He even accused Congress to be behind the phone tapping episode. He went as far as naming the party president Sonia Gandhi to be the one to conspire the entire incident.

However, when it became clear that the tapping affair was actually done on a farzi or fraudulent authorization, he adjured the allegations against her. Even court condemned such inconsistencies of Mr Singh.

Earlier, the publication of the tape was completely barred by the Supreme Court under the supervision of then Chief Justice of India, Y.K. Sabharwal, as publication of such tapes would be interfering into the privacy of individuals involved in them. However, another Bench lifted the ban leading to the publication of the tapes and the entire controversy.

It is notable that Amar Singh, the former Samajwadi Party leader is not interested in taking any action against the service provider – Reliance Infocomm even though it used a forged authorization letter to tap his phone for one long year and even when the Supreme Court told Mr. Singh that he can trigger the proceedings against the service provider.

The movies that are going to compete with each other are Bbuddah – Hoga Terra Baap and Delhi Belly respectively.

Well, the movies that competed two years back were Paa and 3 Idiots. Well, these two movies at least didn’t get released on the same date although their release in the same month got them nominated in the same categories out of which some were bagged away by the former and most of them by the latter. But this time, the competition is really tough as Bbuddah – Hoga Terra Baap and Delhi Belly, both are scheduled for the release on July 1, 2011.

Bbuddah – Hoga Terra Baap is an amusing comedy about an old man who believes that he’s still young portrayed by Amitabh Bachchan who will be seen wearing really young and funky clothes riding a Harley Davidson around the city. On the other hand, Delhi Belly is a movie based on three friends who live together in a bachelor’s dwelling place in Delhi.

Whether the movies will create competition at the time of awards like their films in 2009 or not, this only the time will tell; however, the competition at the cinema viewing doesn’t appear to be a threat as Delhi Belly would be rated ‘A’ this will already keep the movies separate.

Aamir Khan, the producer of Delhi Belly wrote in his blog that Delhi Belly’ has the potential of destroying, in a single stroke, all the goodwill we have built in the last 10 years. He also told the media that the movie actually happened by accident! It so happened that he had been neglecting the script until one day he found his wife Kiran Rao  almost rolling on the ground laughing out loudly after reading the script, this made him finalize making it.

In the mean while Amitabh Bachchan is really excited about the film. Since the beginning of its shooting, he has been tweeting about the film. “those that still want information on ‘Bbuddah’ .. its as in old man ! ‘Bbuddah’ .. hoga tera baap’ is the tag line .. not the saint !” Senior Bachchan tweeted today.

Sonakshi Sinha tweeted a tweet with subterranean meaning on the occasion, “Every mother has her day. More often than not ” Bips had a message for her mother whom she calls a super mom, “My Mother!Superwoman!Paying respect 2 d most selfless person in r lives,Mothers!Evrydy nt jst 2day!” Bipasha Basu tweeted. She also posted her mother’s pic along with the tweet.

Our Ramu, Ram Gopal Varma poised an interesting question, “I wonder what our dads have to say about our moms.”  Indian Tennis star Sania Mirza’s mother joined the Twitter league on the occasion; perhaps it was her gift to her daughters on Mother’s day! “Im giving my two daughters a gift by joining the crazy world of twitter:)Just a good gesture on mom’s day;)” Sania’s mother tweeted her first tweet.

Sania Mirza tweeted the news of her mother’s joining the micro-blogging site along with her message on Mother’s Day, “Happy Mother’s day to all the wonderful and fabulous mothers in the world..the world is nothing without you all:)” … “@nasimamirza my mom decides to join twitter today! welcome to this addictive crazy world of twitter maa..happy mother’s day:)”

Cricketer Sreesanth celebrated the day in a unique way by serving food to needy kids. He also tweeted the photograph of the kids. “Feels gr8 ..just celebrated mothers day with some special kids..they r so sweet.. http://yfrog.com/gzr85odj” … “Serving food for very poor kids who r working on streets.on mothers day.will try them to join school http://yfrog.com/h2lzessaj” he tweeted.

Sreesanth also tweeted a witty little tweet, “God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers. Happy Mother’s Day!!”

Shashi Tharoor retweeted a tweet on the occasion, “A mother is person who can take the place of all others, but whose place no one else can take. Happy Mother’s Day.”

Bollywood diva, Preity Zinta who keeps tweeting on every occasion also tweeted on Mother’s Day. Her tweet read, “Happy Mothers day to all the mothers out there and a special one to my very own Mother India love u mommy … Muaaah !”

Currently, 1,002,480 people are following him on Twitter. He is just a step away from becoming the most followed Twitter Indian Celebrity, a title which is now enjoyed by Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who crossed the 1 million follower mark earlier last week. Currently he has 1,054,572 Twitter followers.

And just below these iconic personalities stand Priyanka Chopra and Shahrukh Khan. Right now, about 995,309 people follow Priyanka Chopra on Twitter where as Shahrukh Khan is followed by about 886,100 Twitter users. And after King Khan stands Amitabh Bachchan, who is indeed a very active Twitterer who keeps tweeting all the day. Currently, about 750,459 Twitterers are following Senior Bachchan.

When talking about Twitter activeness, Sachin isn’t really active, though he does tweet once in a while, where as Shashi is indeed an active Twitterer. In fact, his being active on Twitter brought him more fame than being (former) Under Secretary General of United Nation! And one can even say that he was the one who influenced other Indian Twitterati to be a part of the micro-blogging site.

About two years back, an average internet user from India hadn’t any idea of what Twitter was or what could it do, but with Tharoor’s prolonged controversies created by his tweets that hit all the leading local dailies and the electronic media, Twitter became an iconic site for not so savvy internet users of India.

His tweet to Kanchan Gupta, editor of The Pioneer, which was his reaction to the Indian Government leaders’ decision to undergo austerity drive brought about a tempest in the tea pot! His tweet read, “absolutely, in cattle class out of solidarity with all our holy cows!” Later on he again tweeted “it’s a silly expression but means no disrespect to economy travellers, only to airlines for herding us in like cattle. Many have misunderstd” to cold down the controversy.

Kartik Murali has just watched the movie and has also tweeted his view about the mysterious action-adventure flick. “Watched Source Code,can it be used in 20-20 ckt for bowlers as by the time every match ends some of us have died at the hands of the batsman”, Kartik Murali tweeted. Perhaps he is planning to try his hands at filmmaking being inspired by the movie, who knows if we get to see a cricket based sci-fi movie from Kartik Murali Production!! Or perhaps he’s going to introduce a really hi-tech cricket in the coming days!!

Well, only he himself can tell you what he’s going to do. If you are desperate to know his plans, send him an @reply perhaps he answers you back! I’m also thinking about doing that!! Can’t say if he’ll reply you back individually but yeah if lot many of his fans ask him the same question on Twitter; there are chances that he sends a reply meant for all of them. Like one of the Virender Sehwag’s tweets read, “Hope u guys enjoyed the innings. Thanx for ur wishes.” It appears that he thanked to all his fans that tweeted best wishes for him.

There are several Twitter Indian Cricketers, some of them hardly use their accounts, some send one or two odd tweets once in a while, but again there are some who tweet a lot. May be because of the IPL they aren’t very active on the micro-blogging or perhaps because they are really devoted cricket players who don’t waste time in creating their web presence and what really matters to them is their presence in the field. But then some cricket players love to interact with their fans. Yuvraj Singh is one such player.

It you happen to check Yuvraj Singh’s Twitter page, you’ll find that most of his tweets are @Replies sent to his fans and well-wishers. Some of them saying thanks, some with best wishes for exams, and some answering the questions his fans have asked. In one tweet, he even enquires how his fan did in the exam, as his tweet reads, “how did ur exams go?” Well, I’d only say follow your favorite Twitter Indian Cricketers if you are a cricket fan!

Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Awards 2011

The show became more impressive event for the media as they got full chance to add spices to already spicy mistakes made by the host of the event whose slip of tongue was a little less impressive to the ears of the stars! So Ranveer Singh became Ranbir Kapoor on the mike with his magical anchoring! Something that made Anushka Sharma really angry who came along with Ranveer Singh right on the stage. Thank God, he didn’t declare her to be Anusha Shankar; she would have surely snatched away the mike from him!!

However, Anushka Sharma was already red hot with her hot red sari that made her look like a smart bride getting ready for her doli (though not at all coy!) She along with Ranveer had come to attend the function all the way from Agra where they were busy in a film shooting.  Anushka received Excellent Performance in the Film Award for “Band Baaja Baarat” and Ranveer got the Best Debut Award.

The ravishing looking couple handed over an award to Asha Parekh. She was honored with the Legendary Icon Cine Award. She was extremely delighted to receive the award, “I felt really nice getting this award because this is an award from our industry. I’m very happy”, she exclaimed.

The other legends at the awards included veteran Dharmendra who recently appeared in Yamla Pagla Deewana, he was honored with Phalke Ratan. Always stunning Umrao Jaan – Rekha presented the award to Dharmendra. She was dressed most exotic and looked the most beautiful as ever. She was wearing an elegant sari over a golden colored sleeveless blouse with an exotic make up that made her look the way she looked in 70s and 80s.Eminent veteran Hindi Film legend Dara Singh was honored with the Senior Most Cine Artist Award.

Priyanka Chopra bagged away the Memorable Performance Award for “7 Khoon Maaf”. She was wearing a pink sari over a silver sleeveless blouse making her sleek figure more visible. Sonakshi Sinha, the Dabangg girl won the Best Debutant Award for Dabangg. She came wearing an ankle length anarkali top and perhaps was the only one who wasn’t wearing a sari for the event. The same film got the Debut Producer Award to Arbaaz Khan. And Outstanding Rani Mukherjee received the Outstanding Performance in the Film Award for her much talked about film, “No One Killed Jessica”. She came in a minimalistic look, wearing a gorgeous white with golden sari over a sleeveless golden brocade blouse which gave her an angelic appearance.

The show was full of glitter and also full of dramatic moments. Not just the names created a confusion even the trophies got mixed up!

Sonam Kapoor re-tweeted the newly married Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge’s witty little tweet that read, “I am temporarily allowing the death of Osama Bin Laden to steal my limelight. Further analysis of my dress must, however, resume shortly.”

Mandira Bedi who’s expecting a little one next month is in a highly chirpy and happy mood and Osama’s death made her compose poetry and sing songs!! “Its Obama. That killed Osama. High drama. … Osami Osama.. life goes on… Tra la la la.. Life goes on..” Mandira Bedi tweeted.

I guess Mahesh Bhatt is the most affected Indian Twitter celebrity!  His Twitter home page is flooded with tweets related to Osama! One of his tweets reads funny, one reads serious, and others read vitriolic. Some of his tweets are, “On the day the advance booking of Haunted began. Osama Bin Laden was hunted down and killed in Pakistan!” “While you ‘rightfully’ celebrate the killing of Osama Bin Laden. Who will hang the other terrorist GEORGE ‘BUTCHER’ BUSH.” “Heard: Osama lived 3 yrs at the Pakistani estate where he was killed. US did not inform the Pak govt till its forces had finished the job.”

Gul Panag, Celina Jaitley and Minissha Lamba were also active enough to express their views on Twitter, “So finally after a decade, 9/11 has been avenged. The process having killed and maimed countless civilians. All to get one man.” “Terror leader Osama bin laden is killed…if only Bin Laden used his mind for peace and love that Islam actually teaches.” “Osama is dead. Second term guaranteed for Obama. Trust Americans to steal the world’s attention away from the royal wedding. Interesting timing.” Gul, Celina and Minissha tweeted respectively.

Interestingly, Bollywood stars are not just expressing their views on the micro-blogging site, they are also looking forward to earn a bit out of the hottest selling news of the moment! The producer of the film “Tere Bin Laden” is thinking about re-releasing the movie! And interestingly, Twitter had several many tweets with the name of the movie mentioned in them! One of the tweets read, “What will Al Qaeda do after Laden is dead watch Tere Bin Laden!” Another interesting tweet read, “Today’s quote from Pakistan is Tere Bin Laden”

Wonder if Laden had really watched the movie, how would have he felt? Well, now if the movie really gets re-released his ghost might try watching it!!
